Durin’s Daughter

I’ve been working on Shadowplay a lot lately, but the next chapter isn’t QUITE ready yet, so you will have to wait. In the meantime, there’s a lot of pastel art getting done. This month’s Character Design Challenge theme is “Middle Earth,” and I’m far too much of a Tolkien nerd to pass that up.

Once I thought of her, the image of this particular lovely Dwarven lady and her glorious flowing beard wouldn’t leave my head. I like her; she seems like she’s got a sense of humor. And a finely-groomed mustache, which I just can’t resist in a girl. I imagine she lives in Erebor after the Battle of the Five Armies, depicted in the tapestry behind her. The rug underfoot carries the crest of Durin.

This one was a lot of fun; I always like it when I get to use a lot of color. I get bored if the palette isn’t varied. I’m especially fond of the lamp and the light in that area. Also, Durin’s Daughter looks snuggly and I would like to cuddle with her on the couch, on which I would almost certainly not fit.
