Terrifying Things of a Less Mundane Nature

Art

This week I’ve been pulling out a lot of bestiaries to reference, just get some practice in. So this week I have for you one very dubious-looking shield-lady, who has serious concerns about The Plan…

And one gathra, as seen in the Fiend Folio from D&D’s Edition 3.5. For some reason I really like drawing creepy elephant-like things? I don’t know what that’s about. I like their weird lumpy bodies and sunken eyes. I think this one came out pretty good, though - the legs and hooves particularly. I’ve struggled a lot with foreshortening and proportioning bodies right when they’re aimed directly at the viewer, so that front left leg feels like a major triumph.

The world is on fire outside, but we are not yet, not quite. It gives one a peculiar perspective on the end of the world, being close enough to the edge of it to look over. Never had enough money for a place closer to the Middle, never fully slipped into the fire myself, with a lot of luck and a lot of help. So here we are. Smoke in the air, ash raining from the sky… it’s days like this that I’m glad I work with kittens.
